CYD has had a successful youth workforce training partnership with Borough of Manhattan Community College’s Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development since 2015. More than 250 young people have completed healthcare certificate training, and 60% have gone on to employment in the medical field. This model offers critical insights as we look to prepare young adults to meet the training and employment challenges of a changed employment landscape post-COVID.
CDI counselors work one-on-one with students to educate them about all their options, and also puts together information sessions for students and parents with speakers from the New York State Financial Aid, and host workshops and presentations all through January and February to boost financial aid awareness.
“Coyotes in New York?” exclaimed Valerie, a MCNDHS student, when Nick and Jess, two NYC Park Rangers showed the students a coyote pelt from Inwood Hill Park.
The Cooper Union Summer STEM Program is a six-week intensive that introduces students to the basics of electrical and mechanical engineering, and design.
For the last fifteen years, CDI has connected students to the lab research assistant internship at The Rockefeller University’s Comparative Bio Science Center.
From dance recitals and learning how to catwalk with models, to table tennis practice and meeting government officials, our students had eventful summers!
Since 1999, WNYC Radio Rookies has been conducting workshops across New York City to give young people the tools and training to tell their own stories on the radio. Eight students from CDI got the opportunity to write and produce their own radio shows this summer at WNYC.
Thanks to CDI board members Jackie Krese and Sovonna Day-Goins, 30 members of our schools’ Young Women’s & Men’s Leadership Groups took part in a career exploration event on May 9th at Credit Suisse.
WNYC’s Radio Rookie program has come to CDI! Students at Manhattan Comprehensive Night & Day High School are getting a first-hand glimpse of what goes into radio journalism, broadcasting and production.
