Name: Dejanay, City-As-School, Class of 2025
Post-graduation plan: I’m going to go to college. I want to study either accounting or business management. I got into CUNY LaGuardia and am waiting to hear from some other colleges.
How CYD helped: I always had a close connection with Tomiko and Hadyiah in the CYD office, and then I got an internship working with them. I helped plan, set up, and promote school events like Decision Day; researched colleges and careers; and created bulletin board displays. I loved this internship so much I wanted to keep doing it, but I couldn’t! But I still visit all the time to work on my college and career plans.
School experience: City-As has so many amazing internships and classes. I have done everything from making clothes to studying American poetry and patterns in math.
Dream: I like managing and there are so many types of business. I love the idea of a clothing business. I’ve seen family members start businesses, and I feel ready for entrepreneurship.
