CYD is only as strong as its partner schools. And our partner schools are only as strong as their principals. Fortunately, CYD’s three partner schools are helmed by dedicated, compassionate, and innovative leaders.

Kris Erickson, the principal of Manhattan Comprehensive Night & Day High School, began her tenure already familiar with CYD; she had previously worked at another partner school, The High School for Health Professions and Human Services, for 17 years. Principal Erickson shares with CYD a deep commitment to the well-being and safety of young immigrants, and to helping them gain a foothold in the US through education and employment.

“I can’t imagine Manhattan Comprehensive without CYD. It’s a true partnership and we are always expanding and evolving.”

Robert Gentile, principal of The High School for Health Professions and Human Services

Robert Gentile, the principal of The High School for Health Professions and Human Services, is deeply focused on student success and motivates students to challenge themselves academically, encouraging each student to take at least one AP exam before graduating. At the same time, he has met the challenges of the post-pandemic education landscape by building additional support for struggling students.

“For over a decade, CYD has been a phenomenal partner to HPHS, delivering critical college and career services that transform our students’ aspirations into reality. Their commitment is integral to our mission, and we are grateful for their collaboration; we couldn’t do it with them.”

Rachel Seher, the principal of City-As-School, leads with compassion to make CAS a safe and welcoming place as well as enhancing its unique educational model. She has instituted a cohort model, restorative justice circles, and innovating learning practices. Students appreciate the school’s internship-based curriculum; empathetic teachers, some of whom are alumni; and encouragement of exploring one’s potential.

“CYD staff goes above and beyond and are full members of our faculty. The school appreciates everything they do.”
