Andy Wang speaking at the 2023 CYD Spelling Bee
CYD continues to serve our alumni even after graduation, helping them connect to opportunities, and we are so proud of their accomplishments. Alumni have built thriving careers in various fields including education, civil service, and healthcare. Alumni also remain close to CYD by visiting and becoming supporters, and we are looking forward to welcoming alumni to CYD’s new NextGen Leaders. One alumnus, Andy Wang, MCNHDS Class of 1999, serves on our Board of Directors.
Andy came to Manhattan Comprehensive as a new immigrant from China, and connected with CYD, which helped him with tutoring and SAT prep. His tutor, Bob Delaney, mentored him and helped him apply to Hamilton College. Andy and another promising MCNDHS student, Bing Yi Yu, were both admitted to Hamilton with full scholarships.
Andy is now the CFO of Uncommon Goods, the company started and led by CYD founder David Bolotsky. He has remained closely connected to CYD as a Board member for the past 13 years. Andy’s contributions are greatly valued because in addition to bringing financial expertise as head of the Audit Committee, he has a deep personal understanding of the CYD student experience and what young people need to succeed.
Giovanny Klyd Exilus spelling on the MCNDHS team at the 2024 Spelling Bee
Recent graduates are also distinguishing themselves. Giovanny Klyd Exilus (MCNDHS ’24) is a Macaulay Honors student at CUNY John Jay College; a summer pre-law scholar at Washington and Lee University; and a Student Ambassador for the New York Jobs CEO Council, promoting economic mobility for students at CUNY. As a student at MCNDHS, he worked extensively with CYD as he prepared for college and his future career. He participated in CYD activities such as internships, after-school clubs, corporate visits, and the Spelling Bee. He served as a tutor and translator for fellow students and worked for the school as a teaching assistant in ESL classes. Giovanny was recently featured in John Jay’s Finest, an annual journal of outstanding undergraduate writing.
Your dollars make a difference!
Without the support of each and every one of our individual donors, the stories you read about and the programs that make an impact in the lives of our young people would not be possible. Thank you!
