Meet Our Staff: Sebastian Munn

Name: Sebastian Munn

Title: Director of College Services at Manhattan Comprehensive

What I do: Although my title says College Services, I’m trained to provide both college and career advising. I also train other staff members in our office to do both. We help students with everything from college applications to practice job interviews. It’s important to be able to present all the options for life after graduation, and I’m always excited to see what they choose. I also oversee our tutoring program and serve as a liaison for immigrant students and alumni. I’ve been here for four years, and I love it.

Best part of the job: The most rewarding part is working closely with our students and being a part of their lives. Manhattan Comprehensive mostly serves recent immigrant students and it’s amazing watching them transform over the course of the school year – students who spoke no English and knew nothing about New York in September gradually become more comfortable in their new language and new surroundings.

My workday: I work one-on-one with students and alumni, who are at all stages of planning their futures. Since Manhattan Comprehensive has day and night students, we stagger our schedules so that someone is always there – covering around 8 am to 8 pm. Some students make appointments and some walk in, and we’re ready to help with any of their goals. The fall, when CUNY, SUNY, and private college applications are due, is our busiest time!

Fun fact: Our team speaks multiple languages – Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Russian – which helps us communicate with the many students who come to the school from Central and South America, North Africa, and Russia and Ukraine.

Your dollars make a difference!

Without the support of each and every one of our individual donors, the stories you read about and the programs that make an impact in the lives of our young people would not be possible. Thank you!
