Manan Deen, a math tutor at CYD since 2008, passed away on September 9, 2022, after a brief illness. Originally from Sierra Leone, Manan was an intellectual, a Renaissance man who inspired the thousands of Manhattan Comprehensive students he worked with over the years. With his multilingual skills – English, French, and Krio – he was able to connect with many of CYD’s recent immigrants. Manan was beloved by students and teachers, and the CYD family joins his daughter Fatima in mourning his loss. CYD has established the Manan Deen Scholarship, which will support immigrant students pursuing postsecondary studies.
