CYD’s Young Men’s Group at City-As-School builds strong leaders through peer bonding, self-examination, and shared projects. College and Career Advisor Hadyiah Usenbor created and leads the group, which originally named themselves after Boyz II Men. She plans weekly activities that include vision boards, journaling, and helping with school activities like Career Days. Most of all, the group provides a safe place for young men to share experiences and become more engaged in school and planning their futures. Usenbor observed, “Over the past two years, I’ve seen a change in how consistently the young men in the group come to school. They show up and participate. They want the opportunity – I can see that. The students have a range of career goals – humanitarian work, business. Each in his own way is a leader.”
